Water & Flood Recovery

In the restoration industry, we see water damage frequently.  Most incidents, no matter how small, should be addressed as quickly as possible.  Any water damage that goes unchecked can create additional damage and expenses.  Humidity and moisture promote damage to your home or building, create wood rot, peeling paint, and mold.  Unrepaired leaks can damage ceilings, floors, walls, furniture, electronics, personal property, and create health and safety hazards.

Some Common Causes of Water Damage are:

  • Floods
  • HVAC
  • Burst Pipes and Faulty Plumbing Systems

How long will it take for my home to dry after being flooded?

The length of time it takes to dry after water damage in your home is determined by a combination of factors including the location, duration and source of water; the types of building materials in your home; weather conditions; and how quickly emergency restoration services are started. Through consistent monitoring and evaluation of the drying process, our trained technicians can determine when the drying is complete. In many cases, your carpet may feel dry to the touch, but padding and subfloors may still be wet underneath. While there are no hard and fast rules to determine how long your property will take to dry, typically it takes between three and five days or more, depending on the conditions.

Why do you use air movers and dehumidifiers?

Professional standard dehumidifiers are necessary for removing excess moisture to create the ideal conditions for efficient drying and to prevent further damage.  When water damage occurs in your home, the water can be absorbed into the drywall (sheetrock), baseboards, sub-flooring, carpeting, etc. Drying these materials effectively requires high velocity air movers to accelerate the drying process, before mold and other more serious problems occur.

My hardwood floors are wet and buckling. Will they have to be replaced?

Our team of water mitigation technicians will continually evaluate your floors during the drying process.  At Showcase Restoration, we use professional grade drying systems and dehumidifiers to create an ideal environment for wood floors to dry efficiently.  Optimally, they will resume their original shape.  Depending on the density of hardwood flooring and the type of finish, complete drying may take up to three weeks or longer.  We will work with you and your insurance adjuster to determine whether the floors in your home will need to be refinished or replaced.

My ceilings are wet. Will they have to be replaced?

Showcase Restoration’s water damage mitigation team will evaluate moisture content in your ceiling areas to determine the severity of the damage. They may remove sections of your ceiling for ventilation purposes. Wet insulation inside the ceiling can also be a hazard and will need to be removed.  Depending on the severity of the damage, the ceilings may be repaired or replaced.

Can I turn off the drying equipment?

Our water mitigation team will place, monitor, and continually assess the air movers, dehumidifiers and other equipment to achieve optimal results.  Equipment should never be turned off or moved by anyone other than Showcase Restoration’s technicians.
